This month at Metropawlis
Now that the weather has (finally) turned warm, we hope we'll see you and your pets visiting Metropawlis soon! In addition to the usual selection of great summer toys, treats, and pet safety items, we also have some exciting events and special VIP deals. And please take note of the special information about the pet food recall included in this newsletter; new foods and ingredients were recently added to the recall list, and we want to make sure your pets are kept healthy and safe! Cinco de Mayo Party & Doggie Costume ContestIt’s a Fiesta! Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with your perro (that is your dog) at Metropawlis on Saturday, May 5th. Bring your dog dressed in Fiesta attire and enter our Hot and Spicy Costume Contest! The best dressed pooch will receive a Cinco de Mayo gift package including a margarita toy and treats for the dog and a Botanas gift certificate for the human! If your pooch doesn't want to wear a sombrero, then come for the treats and a special drawing. One winner will be randomly selected for a Metropawlis gift certificate. And all VIPs will receive discounts ranging from 15% to 25% off any purchase! We’ll be serving refreshments for dogs and their companions from 11 am to 3 pm. Pet Food Recall: Recent Additions to Recall ListWhen the news first broke about the tainted wheat gluten that caused a recall of pet food, we expected this to be a sad but short occurrence. Unfortunately, each passing week has seen more pet food recalls. In the last two weeks alone, several new pet foods were added to the recall list and contaminants were found in a second ingredient--rice protein concentrate. The list of affected brands has grown to include dozens of pet foods, including some varieties of ALPO, Doctors Foster and Smith, Eukanuba, Iams, Nutro, Royal Canin, and Science Diet. We want to make sure you are keeping abreast of the news and know where to turn for information. You can find out more information on the FDA's Pet Food Recall page (http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/petfood.html). In addition, a complete and searchable list of all recalled cat and dog foods can be found at http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/petfoodrecall/. Please note that the pet food recall has not affected any of the brands carried by Metropawlis. A Companion brand was part of the recall, but this is not the same Companion Natural Pet Food that is made in Milwaukee and carried at Metropawlis. Fromm Family Foods are produced without the use of any binders such as wheat gluten and have not used rice protein in any of its foods for over a year and half. And, of course, our Three Amigos Treats are only made from human-grade ingredients that are both delicious and safe for your pets. We hope you find this information helpful.
