This month at Metropawlis
There's a lot in this month's e-newsletter, including a request to aid
Katrina's animal victims, info about an upcoming Yappy Hour, and news of an
impending relocation for your favorite pet boutique. Speaking of your
favorite pet store, we hope you'll take a minute to vote in this year's Shepherd
Express "Best of Milwaukee." Details are below...
As all of us know, Hurricane Katrina left a path of destruction throughout
the Gulf Coast. The toll to humans in the area is unimaginable, and we're
among those who have donated almost $170 million to the Red Cross as of
Saturday, September 3rd.
We are asking for
your help in supporting the animals that were left injured and dislocated from
this horrible event. The Humane Society of the United Sates (HSUS) has set up a
disaster relief fund, and Metropawlis would like to double your donation.
We've set up a bowl in our store for collection, and we'll match every dollar
donated in September up to $500. To make a donation, please stop by
our store or if you prefer, make out a check to the HSUS and send it to us at
the postal mail address shown at the end of this e-mail message. We'll
collect all donations, add our matching donation, and send it to the HSUS at the
end of September.
At this moment, HSUS rescue staff and volunteers are working with state
officials, federal agencies, and other organizations to evacuate animals out of
the hardest-hit areas. In Louisiana, they’re helping to set up an
emergency facility at the Coliseum in Baton Rouge where strays will be brought,
evaluated, and then transported to safety. In Mississippi, the HSUS team
includes about 35 trained responders and 8 to 10 vehicles (plus trailers and
RVs), including the HSUS Disaster Response Unit.

Brady Street has been a wonderful home for Metropawlis since we opened
our doors almost two years ago. We cannot say enough about the people who
welcomed us so warmly and supported our small store, but our needs today are not
the same as when we first opened. If you've visited recently, you've
probably seen stacks of boxes either coming or going; the growth of our online
stores (MetropawlisPetBoutique.com
and JustPetStrollers.com)
prompted us to seek a location with more storage and easier access for
shipping.
While our online business has grown, it is our shop in Milwaukee that remains
the heart and soul of Metropawlis, and we truly believe the Third Ward
location will offer our customers a unique shopping experience. Not only
will we have more space in a neighborhood with more parking, but we will also be
working with Three
Amigos Dog Bakery who will be baking and selling fresh pet treats on-site!
We'll keep you informed of progress on our new shop at 317 N. Broadway (just
a half block from the new Milwaukee Public Market). We're not sure when
the move will occur, but watch for a special VIP-only Grand Opening later in
2005 or early 2006.

The last Yappy Hour was HUGE with over 70 pooches and even more humans having
a fabulous time with treats, drinks, and more. Sponsored once again by Metropawlis
and Art Bar,
the upcoming event will be held on Friday, September 23 from 7 to 10 p.m.
at Bucketworks Gallery, 1319 North Martin Luther King Drive.

credit card) as space is limited! The theme for the Yappy Hour is "Bark to
School" and your $20 donation in support of Residents
for Off-Leash Milwaukee Parks will include drinks and snacks for you and
your dog, as well as 'school pictures', a fashion show, and training tips! Hope

And in October, Brady Street will once again be hosting the Annual Dog Parade
and Costume Contest. The event will take place on Sunday, October 2, with
registration beginning at 11:00 a.m. Further information on the event will be
